The "MR Noise" plug demo seems to work well without any chirping artifacts. I hope you're right about Sony moving towards other formats. I've used the DeNoise in PowerCore for broadband noise reduction, i.e.

I'm guessing this is one of the dedicated reviews of the TC Restoration Suite. G4 so I'll have to transfer the audio to make a comparison). (I'm testing out the demo with plans to restore some vinyl. I don't think Wave Arts "MR Click" has this ability. If you need high quality de-click, the Sony and TC de-click plugs have the abiliy to extrapolate or analyze the audio before and after the area of a click or scratch, to create audio data to fill in the gap. Knowing which functions you need can point to the best plug or bundle. What functions do you need? de-noise, de-click/crackle, hum removal? Having used a demo of TrackPlug earlier for similar purpose, I am sure I will feel right at home with this suite, but would still love to hear feedback from others who may have hands-on experience with multiple restoration plug-ins. I am in the process of downloading and installing the demos for the WaveArts Suite right now. I would buy the Sony suite in a flash if it were still available and if I could run it. But PoCo still makes me a bit nervous over the long term.

I am actually willing to buy Powercore just to host their restoration suite, if that is the only real solution for getting pro results that address the modulation issues that are not properly solved by Soundsoap Pro. Unfortunately I cannot find any comparisons of TC Electronic's restoration suite just dedicated reviews that don't even mention other solutions. incrementally better results than Soundsoap 2 (I am using the latter primarily for my own archival spoken word projects at the moment). I'm just not convinced that Soundsoap Pro will give me truly pro results vs. Of course the free DDS plug-in costs $300 ($400?) on its own.

Of course there's always Cedar, but their stuff costs thousands of dollars, and I think it also requires dedicated special-purposed hardware.Īnyway, I already have Soundsoap 2 vand am trying to decide whether it's worth $600 to do the dual Soundsoap Pro and Master Perfection Suite upgrade (the latter seems a bit redundant as I use Ozone and love it).

Restoration software is an area in which I am willing to spend a bit more right now, because I have two waiting clients that I don't want to put off any longer and whose session payments will quickly take care of the related expenses (one wants some old opera recordings transferred from cassette tape, and the other wants some old theatre and spoken word with music accompaniment). I am guessing that Sony oxford (now known as Sonnox - ugh!) may be planning on VST/AU versions of the Restoration Suite, and maybe even Powercore versions as well? regular Soundsoap 2 to be worth an extra $300. SoundSoap Pro was deemed good value though, but I'm not sure it's good enough vs. Sony Oxford came out so far on top in their survey that there was really no competition. Sound-On-Sound recently ran a shootout of restoration plug-ins, but only for the Digidesign platform. BIAS has a special running from now until the end of May, for upgrading to SoundSoap Pro and/or Peak Pro XL, with free Peak 6 upgrade and DDS. Wave Arts have released a new restoration suite (also available individually) that is loosely based on their existing mastering tools (similar GUI layout and workflow).ģ.

I was even willing to buy a cheap-end Digidesign/M-Audio setup just for this one plug-in!Ģ. Sony have canceled their top-rated Restoration Tools bundle. I did a forum search first, and although there are several topics from the past six months, all are very specific in context (speech-only, indie film, etc.).Īs several things have happened in the industry in the past month in this area of technology, I thought it would be good to have a central topic:ġ. This is a thread to discuss the relative merits of all currently available audio restoration software, at any budget level, and for any usage context (as long as you specify).
